>>Your interpretation. She interpreted it differently; there was no intention on her part to deprive MS of their "just due" ... and which she didn't.

>Not a whole lot to interpret there. From looking at the VFP EULA, it looks like they license it to the individual, who is free to copy it anywhere they like as long as they are the only one using it. Keep in mind, however, that I am a tester, not a lawyer.

(Then there are "good" lawyers and "bad" lawyers :) ... In the past, I've had opinions from them that were radically opposed to each other even though they worked for the same firm; it is also our responsibility to educate ourselves and not take the "law" for granted).

That's only part of it (the Office EULA):

"The primary user of the COMPUTER on which the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is installed may make a second copy for his or her exclusive use on a portable computer."

I guess we now debate what "portable" means; eg. dockable, undockable, removable drives, etc.

Anyway, for there to be a problem/case, we have to be able to measure "damages". Since we now know that "other people" were using the software in question (at the same time?), there was a problem and MS was deprived of the revenue which would have flowed from extra licenses.

In the case of one User and "multiple computers" the courts have to determine if MS lost revenue.

Because it's "inconvenient" to copy software between every computer that one might use, and as long as no one else is using the software, is it "reasonable" to expect someone to buy a license for each machine, when the intention is only to use the one instance at any given time. Is it "fair" to expect someone to keep copying and erasing ? Is someone "legit" simply because he has a removeable drive and someone else doesn't ? What if I "dial" into my home/office computer using Terminal Server ... Am I "here" or "there" ?
