Randy, the 'NOFILTER' clause says 'create a cursor in another file instead of using a filtered version of the original table'. VFP tries to save time and memory space by using a filtered table in SQL instead of a separate cursor IF Rushmore says it's possible. Either NOFILTER or a field in the cursor that was not in the original table blocks this. It causes a LOT of problems, because everyone assumes that if they wrote 'cursor' they are getting a cursor.
A good catch on Ed's part!
