American sugar producers have a powerful lobby. Cane sugar is kept at around double the world price with import quotas. Corn syrup is priced higher than it would otherwise be, but lower than cane sugar.
I notice that the Canadian version does not say "sugar" either. I can't remember noticing whether coca cola tastes better in Canada.
I was at a gas station in west Texas that was bringing in Coca Cola from Mexico, where it has cane sugar and tastes better. It's a national shame that "America's drink" tastes better outside America. I guess I think of it that way partly after seeing that movie "The Coca Cola Kid", directed by one of Dragan's favorite directors:
