Most likely you want to create an EXE.

If your friends don't have VFP, you will need to create a setup for them to install the VFP runtime files besides your application. If you are using VFP6, what you can do is:

1. Create a temporary directory
2. Copy there all files that you want to distribute with your application (EXE, DBFS, others)
3. Launch VFP
4. clear all, close all
5. Run the setup wizard and tell it that your files are in the temporary directory that you created in step 1.

Do I build an .app file or win32 executable/com server(exe) and why. Which one of these to I place in my apllication directory for setup to work on?
