If it knows enough to return the error, it must know what the cause was. What a great help if it would pass that along to the developer. Is there a way already? Thanks!

Are you using remeote views ??? I doing that at the moment - honestly, you do not get many informations from there. I had today as you an Update conflict as you, after looking at the update bottom in the view, I found an explanation.
