I should say that much depends on your needs. I consider:
- the VFP report writer for common reports;
- WORD when working with predefined documents, or might need to be edited, or to produce a lengthy report where you would require many VFP reports;
- EXCEL for financial or statistical information (I like pivot tables);
- produce the report with the TEXTMERGE features of VFP when I have to export into a predefined mainframe format.

On top of all, I like the possibility to be able to 'print' to a PDF file instead of a common printer.
