I will take this to mean that in order to access/change the properties of an Msgraph embedded in a general fields, it is NECESSARY to utilize a form and an oleBoundControl. If anyone knows a way to access the msGraph object in a general field programatically without doing this, please let me know.

Actually, with the mschart control you don't have to use an olebound control or a general field. You can build the graph on the fly without having to save it.
But I understand this probably doesn't help you, because the graph is already on a general field.
