>>AFAIK, there's no reason why he couldn't develop under Win95. However, if I had to hazard a guess as to why it isn't listed in the system requirements, I would say that since Win95 will not be supported after this year, there was little, if any, point in doing so.

Thanks Michelle. You have read between the lines far better than the rest, given that I incompletely described my predicament, initially.

I do plan to develop a VFP app. I purchased VFP 7 because of all of the wonderful things this forum's guru's are saying about it, and Gradware is selling it for an unbelievable price ($109). (BTW, if you did not know about gradware.com, and you or a family member has student/faculty status, it really does offer some great prices. If you happen to go there and buy something on this rec, my Referral ID is REFUF5245W)

The kicker was that gradware had cut'n'pasted (apperently) the sysreqs from a VFP 6.0 promo into their 7.0 promo, so, seeing the price, I unhesitatingly bit...and the hook was painful.

Your right about the return problem too. Breaking open the package to see if it works under 95 voids the return. (I'm just glad I read the box before opening it!). Other threads on this subject note that some versions of the installation flatly refuse to load on W95.

The good news in all of this is that if I go ahead and bite the bullet (with a new OS and machine, as is being suggested), my apps will apparently run on W95 machines. I'm developing an app for a vocational school in Mexico that cannot afford to keep up with the Evil Empire every time it decides to create a new version to bolster its market plan. The other app will be for the non-profit charity group in the U.S. that helps support the vocational school ... same tight budget problem.

As far as staying with an antiquated OS, I have to say that W95 has continued to serve me very well while developing in VFP 6.0 and the only advantage I can see upgrading is that it is because I have to, given the market reality being fomented on us by the Juggernaut.

My experience with W98 is that it occupies more memory and disk space and runs slower than W95 without offering any significant increase in utility. It seems to crash just about as often. I have no experience with 2000 or XP, but MS's track record does not bode well in this regard.

What all this adds up to is that I'll probably upgrade to a new OS and machine while harboring increased animosity toward a bully who uses its size to force us to buy the bigger, but not better, mousetrap.
