Evan, here is what we do at the Midwest (Kansas City area) FoxPro UG
>I recently been named prez of the Vancouver user group. Some questions for other organizers.
>
>1) How much do you charge per meeting and per year?
$50 a year with all memberships expiring at the same time.
>2) Do you provide drinks or food? Free or pay?
Drinks are NOT provided
>3) Besides meeting dues, what else do you do to fund raise?
Nothing right now.
>4) What do you use group funds for? Buying speakers dinners?
Pay misc expenses (government filings) and primarily bring in outside
VFP experts. In the last two years we have been fortunate enough to
have the following experts visit us: Jim Booth, Whil Hentzen,
Kevin McNiesh and Rick Schummer and Steve Sawyer (as a tandem).
We pay for rental of a facility (including video equipment), round
trip airfare, hotel, meals and offer an honorarium. Bringing in outside
speakers really increases the attendance. While we normally meet the
2nd Thursday of each month from 7pm to 9pm, we have special extended
hours (all day Friday) when bringing in outside guests.
>5) What is your best source of new members?
Mass email announcing special VFP speakers.
>6) How do you attract speakers?
Send them an email and ask.
>
>Any other tips or advice?
I takes some time and a coordinated effort to make all this work. Make sure
other persons on the user group board are willing to put in the effort. We are
very lucky here at the MWFPUG to have such a great team.
