Hey Chris,
In VFP 6.0 I used a technique similar to Bob Lee, but with a twist. I made two identical shapes and filled them with green. I placed one of the shapes at the top of the button and the other shaped at the bottom of the button. And left the middle of the button as-is (grey). So I ended up with a grey button in the center with a green top and bottom bar. Then, it looked like a lighted button. After the user pressed the button I changed the color of the top and bottom shapes to red so they knew they pressed it. I changed it back to green if they pressed it again. I did what Bob Lee did and made the shape click event be cmdbutton.click() so if the mouse was on the shape when the user pressed the button it still worked the button underneath it. So when I ended up with was a standard size button divided into thirds. With a green top edge and green bottom edge.
