PMFJI, but we ARE taking about Star Trek here... Anyway, if you saw the movie "First Contact" you know about Warp Drive. A change from the explanation on the original series. In the original series, the guy's name was still Zephram Cochrane, but he was an inhabitant of a colony around Alpha Centauri. Probably 15 years ago now, there was a book written called "First Contact" which was NOT exactly like the movie of the same name, which moved Cochrane to Earth (how would we get to other stars without warp drive, eh?). Like the movie, Cochrane launched his experimental ship coincidently at the same time a Vulcan survey ship was pasing through our solar system. Humans first contact with aliens was with the Vulcans.
I scare myself sometimes. I think I'm getting too old to name the old series episode and air date within the first minute though. Any idea what a copy of Mr Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, signed by Scotty, would go for? Yes, I used to watch WAY too much Star Trek, we had a PBS station here that showed 3 uncut and commercial free episodes per night, in order.
