ActiveX controls can and probably will continue to be created by 3rd party vendors. ADO exists and will for a long time since many applications use it but ADO.NET is the next generation of ADO as part of the .NET Framework (uses .NET and not COM). Products like SQLServer2000 and the new features in VFP 7.0 promote the use of XML for offline data sets and data transfer. So ActiveX and COM are not evolving as technologies, but they are not going away either (backward compatibility will remain for a very long time).
