The presenter said he had asked that question at Microsoft when preparing for this conference. He said much of what was said he could reveal, but he could say that Microsoft was 'absoulutely supporting VFP going forward from this point' and that 'they would as long as people kept buying the product'.

What exactly are you asking? It is critical for VFP developers to upgrade to VFP 7.0. Every product at Microsoft is like a business within the company, generating profit is critical. I encourage all VFP develoepers to upgrade to VFP 7.0 not only because of the great new features but also because it is the most stable and advanced version of VFP ever. Not a key phrase in the comments you heard at the confernece. "as long as". If VFP developers don't upgrade and VFP sales are non-exisitent, the product might not evolve like any other product. But to be very clear, this is not the case right now, VFP is evolving and the Fox team is actively working on the next version of VFP. Marketing efforts are being expanded, etc. But you should encourage VFP developers you know who have not upgraded to VFP7 yet to do so, and if they don't, ask why. If you have any additional questions or concerns, let me know.
