The error is usually a bad network connection, I have had a spate of errors caused by the client electing to get their cabling installers to do the install, because their really cheap, and they take every short cut possible.
You can run into problems when an existing 10Mb network is upgraded to 100Mb as the cabling requirements are far higher at 100Mb. i.e. minor packet loss at 10Mb goes off the scale at 100Mb.
I have developed the following to overcome this.
1. Use only brand name NIC'S & Switches. i.e. Intel, Bay etc. With the Switches pay attention to how much backplane or fabric it has, and how it queues the packets.
2. Have the cabling certified to at least 100Mb, with the following tests
100% of the cabling shall be tested for:
- Continuity
- Correct Sequence
- Reversed Pairs
- Transposition
- Split Pars
- Pair to Pair Near Cross Talk (NEXT)
- Power Sum Near End Cross Talk (PSNEXT)
- Attenuation
- Return Loss
- Power Sum Equal Level Far End Cross Talk (PSELFEXT)
- Phase Delay
- Delay Slew
Any other tests as deemed required by the manufacturer to obtain End-to-End Certification.
All tests required to satisfy your relevant Authorities
