Check Ed Rauh's Api_apprun class here in download section. You can run a DOS (or any other) task by setting properties (command line, directory to run in etc) and calling methods of his class. Your little DOS task can run minimized; for as much as I've used it, it runs minimized but temporarily steals focus. Maybe the current version gives you more control, haven't checked.
