Here's what VFP7 Help says:
"Reserved words in Microsoft® Visual FoxPro® include functions, system variables, properties, events, methods, commands, menu constants, and clauses. When programming, avoid using reserved words as names (for example, window, table, and field names). If you use a reserved word as a name, it might generate a syntax error.".

While I would agree that the wording is (necessarily, I think) wishy-washy, it does constitute fair warning. And Ithink we've all learned that heeding warnings is generally the practical approach.
