Yeah, I agree. I like to see a variable, field name or object and know immediately what it supposed to be - which depends on, of course, whether everyone modifying the code is following the standards or not. I personally try to follow the basic standard that I find already in an application, unless it is especially egregious. In my own I try to follow the naming convention standards suggested for the language.
