>>>Does anybody have any knowledge or experience with interfacing Foxpro with Peachtree accounting package? Actually, any feature-rich, Windows-based, simple-to-use, multi-user, CHEAP, and most importantly, Foxpro interfaceable off-the-shelf accounting package will do nicely. Yes, I know I'm asking a lot, especially with the word "CHEAP" in there.
>>>
>>>I've tried to build a simple accounting package myself for my smaller clients that have special needs most off-the-shelf packages don't provide but found it too time-consuming to actually finish one. All of the customizable Foxpro-based accounting packages are too expensive, even w/o source for some very small clients that I have. Anyway, most don't need "100 page feature list package" and can get by with just the basics but always have one or two aspects of accounting they want to customize.
>>>
>>>The reason I brought up Peachtree is that it fits all aspects of what I want except I don't know how hard it is to interface with a Foxpro-based application and data.

>>I have integrated Peachtree 4.0 and FoxPro, but not directly. Peacthree has a nice customizable export utility, which I used to export the data into CSV files, then imported into FoxPro. A kludge, but worked OK.

>>Peachtree uses DDE to talk to other applications, so it may be possible to link them. It just looked like too much work.

>>Peachtree's pretty good all around, but you're in for trouble if your users need any custom reports. Their utility makes FoxPro's report writer look good.

>Thanks for your input. Although my case would be little different same type of problems exist. I need to import INTO Peachtree FROM Foxpro and I need to probably do this constantly (at least once a day like batch mode). I will look into Peachtree's use of DDE (kind of an old technology isn't it???) and see how much work is needed. Anyway, the search continues...

John, the only thing you can POKE into peachtree from another program is a journal entry. If you are making dail entries, then it sounds like this is what you need anyway. The Peachtree documentation explains how to use DDE with peachtree, but the only examples it provides are VB code files, so I haven't yet had a chance to read them. (My only copy of VB is at home). I will soon, however, because I am about to take on a similar task. Currently, our accountants use reports generated from my program to make their journal entries, and they want to know if it's automatable. This project is a couple of items down on my list, but I will post any oddities I find when I get into it.
