I was about to respond similarly.

I will admit to being an atheist in that I do not believe in (a/any) God, but I believe in the teachings of Jesus, so maybe that makes me a Christian, per se (I strongly believe in the views of MK Ghandi, too). I cannot bring myself to believe that Jesus would agree with any of the extreme sentiments being advocated & justifed in the name of Christianity.

Seems fundamentalist Muslisms & (so called) Christians have a lot in common.
