Hi, Cindy:

Shucks ma'am.... I'm innocent.

>>>>
You have the whole article and I don't, but what I see from your quote is that the creation of the new .NET exams parallels the movement from Visual Studio to Visual Studio.NET. As you know, VFP is not currently a part of the .NET strategy. To be clear, there are no new VFP exams because the new series of exams are .NET exams.
>>>>

I had come to this conclusion also, and am also mindful that indeed there weren't any VFP exams up until 18 months or so ago, so that even pre-.NET the VFP exams were coming late to the party.

>>>>>
Notice also that C++ is not mentioned in the list of new exams. Don't make yourself look like just another whiner who likes to say that Microsoft gives VFP a bad deal.
>>>>>

I posted this quotation in the spirit of the facts speaking for themselves, (or in this case, the director of Microsoft's certification and skills assessment group speaking...presumably...for Microsoft). I thought that my final comment about the ability to mix and match old and new exams was refuting a possible knee-jerk conclusion that they were discontinuing all VFP exams altogether.

>>>>>
There will be new exams for VFP when there is enough of a technology/skill change from that certified by the current exams to justify the effort related to creating new exams. This is exactly what happened with the VFP6 exams.
>>>>>

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. That would be my hope, if not necessarily my expectation given past history and the reprinted comment).

I have no inside information of any kind. I read this in an independent but certainly Microsoft-related type of magazine which is sent to holders of Microsoft Certifications, of which I am one. While I suppose the subject line of the thread could be construed as "whining" by some people it did at least serve to get your's, Evan's, and perhaps others attention for comment and clarification, which was, indeed, the purpose of posting this in the first place.

If I might be permited a further observation,(GD&R) would have to say that given the new web features in Visual FoxPro version 7.0, I would argue that out of the box VFP might offer at least as much as Basic and C# to web developers, and that a web application development kind of exam for VFP wouldn't be a bad idea.

All the best,

--- Larry

>>"McSweeney also laid out Microsoft's plans for a new interation of its MCSD credential, which offers candidates the chance to mix and match exams between th older versions of tests and newer ones. Whereas the last generation of MCSD core tests distinguished between desktop and distributed applications, the new generation will offer tests that focus specifically on Windows and Web application development.
>>
>>Also, in its new set of tests, Microsoft will do away with versions for Visual FoxPro developers. The Web Applications exams will only come in Visual Basic.NET and C# flavors."
>>
>>So, I guess as long as you can mix and match between older and newer ones, the VFP exams would be valid. Maybe?
