>IF Kansas, MS, IL, and IN had 75 MPH on the interstate I would have been home quicker.

Bret;

I received my discharge from the Air Force in October 1967, and was driving my trusty 1953 Olds 88, which had about 170,000 miles on it with the original engine. I felt I had to nurse it to get back to San Francisco, my home. My wife and I set out on our trip from Benton, Missouri, near Grandview (below KC), and the Hiway speed limit was 65, so I felt O.K. and the car was doing all right too. Just a few miles west we entered the state of Kansas, and the speed limit signs read 80MPH! Lord, I was passed by semi trucks and anything with four or more wheels. If my car did not weigh 5000 pounds I would have been blown off the road.

When we got home I did a compression check on my Old’s and had two cylinders at 90 lps and 6 at 45. So I had 6 dead cylinders and was more than lucky to get home to rebuild my engine and start life as a civilian.
