A man of great principal. I was quite young but I do remember his show. Although it was 30 years ago when TV had not sunk to the depths it has now, he decided to end his show because he did not like the direction this medium had taken. Imagine how he felt years later when it had sunk even lower by the time he died. AFAIK, this Pledge is rarely if ever recited in our public schools anymore, at least where I live.

>As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture. It is followed by an observation of his own.
