Yes, it was a good gesture.
The "Last Night" of The Proms (a classical music festival) was rearranged and included much American music, as well as a minute's silence before Barber's Adagio was played (you'll know it even if you don't know it's name). The finale of Beethoven's Choral Symphony replaced Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, traditionally played on that night.
