Hi Simon,

>I have often thought this would be a desirable addition to VFP. It should also handle tables over 2GB. The data should be compressed and encrypted when sent from client to server and vice versa. This would allows less data to be sent over an Internet connection and increase security.

It has been stated several times in many places (and said to be directly from VFP Team members too) that overcoming the 2gig. limit requires a major rewrite of most of VFP.
That being the case, I am going to view this as a separate wish. If it hasn't already been submitted I think you should do so.
Compression and encryption are interesting ideas, especially given the price/speed of processors available today. I wouldn't see this as "the" way to break the 2gig. limit though, but rather as allowing more than 2gig. of 'real' data to be stored. There would be no statable 'capacity' though because each table would vary in its maximum based on the data and format.
The benefits you list are excellent ones and for that reason I feel that it should be a separate wish too.

This is effectively what this wish is, though I am happy to leave the implementation details to the VFP Team.

I hope that you agree with this reasoning and that you submit separate wishes for the things you've mentioned.

Thanks,

Jim
