How can they "respond" ? ... Deny that it not "true" ? Start building better software ? Offer discounts ? Open Source ?

In this situation, I think Gartner has a point ... particularly when one has to maintain an IIS Server.

The MS drive to be the answer to ever facet of computing means that it is spreading itself thinner and thinner, and all its products are taking on a particularly sloppy aspect; the alternatives are becoming more attractive all the time. Sort of like the old automobile industry.
