Yes...a single drive of a RAID system using striping will not do much good. It would have to be mirrored. I have heard that something like this was (maybe still is) done in some cases in the Canadian military. The drives are actually inserted into some type of radiation proof (lead?) case and transported off-site. Of course, this might not have been a regular RAID array...I did not get the details.
