Will,

Fabio's solution is perfect for enabled/disabled situation, but in case for ReadOnly (as stated in the original question), it's an overkill. The first thing, I saw Fabio's answer, I wanted to just correct it, because it was about textboxes, but then I re-read the question and noticed, that he was talking about ReadOnly property.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
