>The "ODBC Driver" executes on the *Client* in a "file server" setup. There is no "sending" of sql over the network (as in a client/server setup with an "SQL Server" or DCOM type of backend).

I am going to have check this out...Not that I would ever go that direction in the first place. if I use a dbf,I use VFP directly... however I use ODBC all the time, but I always connect to a server of some sort... Actually different types of servers. Maybe I made the assumption that odbc, if its running on a file server actually then acted like a sql type server, but I guess I am wrong. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that one to me.

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
