I mostly liked it. I didn't actually think they needed 2 hours for this story, but that's usually true for 2 hour episodes of virtually anything.

As for action, I prefer ideas, words, interactions, and that's what's always attracted me to Star Trek. In this case, they needed to first do the character and plot exposition.

In fact, I think the weakest thing about the episode was character exposition. I haven't yet sorted out who's who among the men (pretty easy to do the women with only two of 'em) other than the Captain and the Doctor. But I figure that'll come. A premiere needs to do show all the characters and give them all some time; later episodes will probably focus on different characters and let us know who they are.
