Our sense of humor was always a bit more sarcastic than yours... you're just too mild and well-meaning. The sentence "oti?ao u komitet po svoje mi?ljenje" is probably more understandable from a Russian language standpoint. It usually applied to a local politician who didn't have an opinion about something, or did have one but disagreed with it, and then went to the local party committee and come back having his own opinion. The doublethink twist was there, these guys would defend that opinion thereon as if it was really their own. I sometimes wonder how many of them have really believed it.
