That will work in your case, even if the structures aren't completely identical - you can have more or less fields, memos converted to strings and vice versa, numeric values of different length etc.

Come to think of it, most of our code is in memos - just look at the structure of .pjx, .vcx, .scx, .mnx and .frx files, and it's so in the last four versions. Haven't seen memo corrupted in quite a while. Maybe the last time was at home, in FPD2.6 after a power out.
