One more suggestion...
What is a query for that view? Is it like "SELECT * ..."?
If yes, VFP could query a list of fields and their types for such data set from a server, that can take a lot of time. Just try to change the query to query a field list instead of * (in view designer this is easy to do when you change order of fields selected).
