Seems like a lot of work. Why don't you do a SQL-SELECT that will create a single result table, and use that table as the basis for your report?
This is the approach that I always take.
I also make sure that the report does not use the table name as part of the definition of the report, (just uses fields). I don't use the report data environment at all.
