Some of the other ideas here were actually better (long term wise I think), but if you want to stick with alltrim() then limit the len such as LEFT(alltrim(),50) etc (use the length of the column in the grid. I recommend changing the control in the grid to an editbox also though-I think you will be happier in the longrun.
