Hi James!

I just received the Client/Server book. The book says...

"In informal tests ... (with completely local data) it took 80 percent longer to perform a query via ODBC than with native VFP access"

"moved to a network file server, the performance equation reversed itself! In fact, in many cases ODBC performance was observed to be up to 250 percent better than native"

Their own conclusion...

"All this isn’t to say that you should jump on this technique in order to improve performance, but that ODBC performance may be better than you think."

I read that the VFP ODBC driver isn't supported anymore, although I'm only repeating what someone else said.

I'd really like to know under what circumstances this improvement ever manifests itself, at least so local views can be given the same performance under these same circumstances.

>>I hope you are not taking any of this personally. Are you suggesting the SQL Server book? That book is talking about SQL Server which has to be accessed via ODBC. Please prove that VFP accessing data via ODBC will outperform VFP accessing data without ODBC.

>I can't here. I work at home. Please refer to page 126 of "Client/Server Applications with Visual Foxpro and SQL Server", published by Hentzenwerke. There is an entire section devoted to remote views of VFP data.
