Thanks Andrew!
I tried using :

Update (ThisForm.Grid1.RecordSource) set thisform.grid1.Text1 = date() where empty(thisform.grid1.text1)

but it's giving a program error saying "SQL: Column ' ' is not found"
What am I doing wrong?
