The attempt to integrate church and state happens all of the time, please see: http://www.au.org/press/pr72701.htm

I for one am very happy with the separation of church and state. I moved around a lot as a child and attended many schools in many states. While in Colorado, the school observed 3 minutes of silence which some children/teachers chose to use for silent prayer--others chose to try to sleep for 3 minutes. Since the 3 minutes was not specified for anything in particular, I had no problem with that and actually enjoyed it. In all locations we were allowed to carry our 'bible' of choice if we so desired as long as it was only read by ourselves and during non-curriculum time. I agree with that too. It's when religious beliefs are presented or participated in on behalf of the school itself or its teachers that I have a problem. It should be kept separate and out of the schools as well as all other government. My daughter attended a private school because I wanted her to have a religious education. That was MY choice and that is what private schools are for. She now attends public school and I do NOT want any religion mixed into the environment from the authority figures. If I did, I would put her back into private school.
