You are correct on all points. But a comment

Sending a child out of the room (into the hall) while the Pledge is recited is in itself a negative. Going out into the hall implies one is somehow misbehaving, is bad in the other childrens eyes; its like standing in the corner. It also singles out the child and can make them an object of scorn or ridicule.
