Hello Steve,
I'm honored by your response. I'm familiar with all the things you've done (I still have a GIBSON LIGHT PEN) and am awed by the things you've done.

The situation here is that we have a lot of programs, not too many prjects, written in FPD and FPW. They contain a lot of USE ? commands because of the way they work here. We also do an awful lot of our work from the command window. The client requests come fast and furious so the work is done on the fly. We're a direct mail outfit, so there's not much call for apps, since we create a mailing and move on. Continuously different requirements even from same clients.

We also do a lot of NPRINT's and use PCONSOLE because of third party apps we have to run, which is why we can't use the MS client.

This seems to stem from the combination of VFP7, Win2K, NetWare and PC. Change any one of them and it all works. It's sort of like the Iomega "Click of Death" that you solved. There were a lot of theories, all wrong, until you figured it out.

Going from FPW to VFP7 would have been bad enough, but we've also gone to new PC's and Win2K at the same time. Too much too soon.

Pete

>I'm trying to get a proper perspective on this problem. It seems that this is all centered around the inability to issue a USE ? command. Is that true? That would be enough to not use VFP7?

>If it is really that big a deal, write a function (call it MUSE() *grin*) that displays a list of tables from the current database, and opens the one that the person selects. I would think it would take less than an hour (should take *much* less); it sounds that you've spent a lot more time than that on it already.

>I understand your frustration...it sounds like your confidence in VFP7 has been shaken by this (especially with a Novell server). But, I really think enough people are using the product, and stability doesn't seem to be an issue. Perhaps not that many people type "USE ?".

>I wish you the best in this,
