If you are using MS Exchange as your e-mail software, it is very easy to send an actual e-mail message using MAPI. I have been playing around with it lately and it works great. That would allow the message to be sent external to VFP which is less coding and less overhead on your application.
Take a look at the ActiveX MAPI Session and MAPI Message.
