Jerry,

I only want to point out that Curtis did NOT say "...a leading Christian sect" but rather "...leading a Christian sect".

Amazing how the transposition of one word can muck things up.

Jim

>>>No, actually Jim Jones was in a different league. He was masquerading as a "Christian", but had totally rejected the Bible, and depended more on communist writings and philosophy.
>>
>>So we're willing to split hairs in favor of Christianity. If Jim Jones was not leading a Christian sect, then that fact was lost on 99% of the population.

>Who is "we"? I'm not familiar with the poll you are refering to, but I am familiar with the Chrisitan literature at the time and it was warning against Jim Jones and his cult. So were in depth news pieces at the time. Calling the Jones cult a 'leading Christian sect' is a total distortion of the facts. At its height the group never had more than a few thousand followers, and less than 1,000 followed him to his jungle 'paradise'. That certainly is not 'leading".
>Movements that lead number followers in the millions.

>>I'll bet that an educated Muslim cleric might say that bin Laden is masquerading as a Muslim, but has totally rejected the Koran.
>>
>>You quote parts of the Koran saying that they should do away with the unbelievers, but I've met many Muslims who don't wish to do that at all. And you can pull out parts of the Old Testament saying that one group should wipe out another. I don't think that that's what I should do.
