I'm not so sure. I wrote an exe a few weeks ago that was configured using SRVANY.exe to run _as_ a service, the exe had to use msxml to retreive data over the web, and the connection failed _every_ time when running as a service. I don't know for sure that this was the cause, but since everything worked fine when running as an exe, I think it's a fairly safe bet.

>I haven't used ServerHTTP actually - I assume proxy config is required only if a proxy connection needs to be set right? If you're sitting on a Web server especially a public one this may not be a huge issue because most likley no proxy config will be necessary.

Nope. ServerHTTP will not work at all unless it's configured, proxy or no proxy. I wouldn't have designed it that way- I think that a 'no proxy' default would have made sense, but that's how it works.
