>Does anybody know how to stop Win2K Advanced Server from triggering my Router to dial the internet? The server keeps trying to connect to the internet when it is idle and I want to stop this. Ideally, I'd still like to be able to browse the web from the server but, if necessary, I would even go as far as blocking all internet access from the server.

If you've set the default gateway of the server to be the router (you probably have) then anything the server can't resolve locally, it's going to try to get it from the Net, thus causing the dialing. Possibilities (this is by *no means* comprehensive):

- if any W/S on your LAN has its gateway set to the server's IP, and the server's gateway is the router, then a call to any IP not on the local subnet will bounce to the router

- DNS and Active Directory are intertwined. If the server DNS can't resolve something locally it will try the Net. If this is your case I can't give you detailed help as I'm not an expert on MS's implementation of DNS and Active Directory.

- The W32Time service periodically tries to go to an NTP server on the Net to update the server time. I understand this is important to properly support Kerberos authentication.

As for nailing the culprit(s), you could remove all gateways from the server TCP/IP configuration and watch the Event Log for connectivity failures.
