>My group here at Crane has been told that all our apps will have to be web enabled by 10/01/2003. Well we met to discuss several issues concerning this transition and I pointed out that if we are to do a complete rewrite of our apps to get them to the web, then lets get it right this time and ensure that all of our apps be 3 tier. Well by opening my big mouth I have been tasked to educate others on what is 3 tier and what are the benefits and the costs of converting our applications to a 3 tier path. So what I am asking for is some sources that I can send members of the group to that would explain/educate 3 tier to them (as most did not know what it was). Also could those with 3 tier experience respond to this post with the pros and cons of going the 3 tier route. I would like to know if it truly was the right path or did some find that 2 tier was the best they could do. Also management has not defined what would constitute the tools in any tier yet. So some ideas on what anyone

Bret,

This is a high-level paper on N-Tier with a more detailed explanation regarding the middle tier. It's from Jim Booth's site.

I'm sure others will drop-in with more...
