How do you suppose that school principals/teachers justify that?

I would have thought that, of all places, a public school would teach that one works toward fixing laws that they disagree with, not flout them. This is a (albeit simple) form an anarchy.
The "smart" kids (weren't we all smarter than adults in those days) will use this as an example to disregard any school rule they personally disapprove of too.
