A lot of people get caught up in the hype of what they're writing about or their current toy. The fact is that .NET is still beta. VFP is proven and can work with new technlogies like .NET. I've also read some of these articles and I'm anxious to start doing some comparisons myself...
>I've just finished read the article VFP in a .NET World from FoxPro Advisor October 2001.
>And after I have read that article if I was a VFP developer considering in start building web applications then I will considering in stop developing code in Visual FoxPro, I may even considering in stop developing in Visual FoxPro at all unless for small desktop applications.
>I'm saying that since the person that have written this article Jenny Brown as a statement that I pass to quote "What's VFP's role in this changing development world?
>While .NET is geared primarily for distributed, Web-based applications, VFP will continue to be geared toward robust client-server applications." since everybody now is saying that client-server is dead and in my experience this is true now all the applications are being developed as n-tier applications, then all new developers shouldn't use VFP unless they are designing desktop applications and don't have any plans that those applications should run in a n-tier environment.
>Then also if this is true then why the heck does Microsoft put all this new features in VFP if we are to development old types of client-server application or desktop applications then Why do we need to create web services and why do we need XML?
>What is great in VFP is that you can design any type of application that you want, you can design desktop applications using VFP data, you can design n-tiers application also where you can create COM+ application in VFP talking with other COM+ applications written in any other language or not.
>What I want to pass here is that people that write articles have a responsibility also the magazines that publish that articles are also responsible for what is printed, any one in my opinion that read this article and don't really know VFP would have an idea that if they plan to write n-tiers applications then they should stay away from VFP and this is not true!!!
>Perhaps is because of situations like these ones the now and then the notice of VFP dead stays appearing.
>
>This is my personal opinion and in any manner I'm trying to be unrespetfull to Jenny Brown
