No, that's not it. For unknown reason the ALTER string became garbled, as Dragan identified. It happened in both VFP6.0 and VFP7.0, so it could be considered as a strange bug, which I probably have to submit. Dragan also suggested a workaround: instead of using macro generate prg on the fly and execute it. This seems to resolve the crash problem.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
