While not by any means near the situation like you are, I'm afraid that the Ontario public school system suffers similarly.
My only quibble would be that it isn't diversity alone at the root, but the self-esteem and group-think that you mention are equal contributors.

My son got a "F" in a grade 10 essay detailing his interpretation of a short story (the kind of work we used to get in grade 6, by the way). His "F" was because he argued that the farm-girl main subject of the story was not being subjugated or otherwise belittled (she did farmwork, housework and stopped school at grade 5 while 3 brothers went to school (avoiding the work)) because that was the norm in the period of the story (late 1800's as I recall).
When I said I wanted to go have 'a talk' with that teacher he begged me not to, and so hard that I didn't go. He didn't want to be making more 'trouble' and face the consequences with his peers and his teachers!
