>>>I read Craig B.'s reply, and he failed to mention that possibly the strongest reason that it didn't sell well is that it was generally regarded as a very poor effort.
>>>
>>>Some, like yourself apparently, did find it to be very good (I gave mine away to someone similarly-minded here on UT) but many others felt that it was not.
>>>
>>>For the record, I do think that such a thing, done well, would be a very good idea. We need to get more people trying VFP out and that is a very difficult task indeed given only (currently) the basic product documentation.

Training is another issue. I am fortunate as I “grew up” through the dBaseII ranks to the present product. Whenever possible I took classes from many sources available and it costs money. $2000 for four to five days is a common amount.

>>It takes a lot of training to learn VFP. You can do it if someone points you in the right direction or you are motivated to do so. Trying to establish a path for others is something we can all contribute towards.

>>Once you “know something” you do not often think about how you gained your knowledge. You add to your knowledge through experience. There are so many ways we could approach this topic. Seems like we should do so in an orderly manner as we could only confuse a new comer with 1000 white papers on the same topic, each taking a different perspective. Now where to begin?

> That's exactly my point. I worked with VFP3 & 5 for a while. Now the company I'm in is using 2.6 and is only thinking of moving up because MicroSoft announce it was discontinuing support. I can't remember most of what I learned! It's like starting over.
> We started looking at some training videos (level three) and some of the guys flat out said they wouldn't develop because it was way beyond their abilities. It's darn tough to figure out where to start when you already know something about data bases and have to jump into VFP.
> I just though something "mastering" was a good way to fly. Step by Step, self-paced and self-checking. May not have been the best, but it did work.

Pete;

You have to use a commercial framework, learn how to use it and can learn VFP along the way. The learning curve is not that steep if you go that route. Do not attempt to build or develop your own framework!

Teaching and learning a framework is not that difficult. Start with a small app and go from there. It will save you so many hours and make life easier for everyone. In fact programming will be fun!
