Let me state clearly: Regardless of what the 7.0 sales are, there will be a new version of VFP released. That is not to say Microsoft does not care about the sales of VFP. Microsoft does care about sales and usage of VFP, otherwise they would not have expanded/extended the marketing efforts for VFP significantly recently including hiring me to be product manager. If every developer decided to upgrade to MSDN subcriptions instead of just VFP7 (MSDN includes VFP7), that would be better for Microsoft.
<<

This is a bold statement; one that cannot be squared with this:

>>This is correct, developers need to upgrade to VFP 7.0. The Fox team is and will be measured by the number of developers who upgrade to VFP 7.0 or MSDN subscriptions, that is what determines the future of VFP more than anything else.
>>

To say that on one hand, sales/upgrades are irrelevant and on the other, to say that sales/upgrades of 7 are what determins the future of VFP more than anything else are inconsistient positions.

I understand you are bringing MSDN into the mix. Let's take a moment to examine that point. How many people currently using VFP 6 will not upgrade to VFP 7 in lieu of upgrading to MSDN? The Fox upgrade costs $299 or something close to that? An MSDN upgrade costs considerably more than that.Personally, given the disparity of the numbers, I don't think there will be many VFP developers who will get MSDN in lieu of just VFP. If VFP is all they use, the most important parts of MSDN are free on the web; that being the knowledge base.

If VFP gets to ride the coat-tails of MSDN, great. Then I don't see the reason to rush out and upgrade. Based on this latest post, that is what you are essentially telling people.

On one hand, you tell people how important it is to upgrade. On the other, you say that upgrades are irrelevant to the future of VFP? And at the same time, you make the statement above? Ken ,I don't mean to bash you here, but these are your words, not mine. Either stand by or reject them, but don't ignore them.

Personally, I don't have a vested interest in whether there is an 8 or not. I do have a vested interest in my credibility. Somewhere, this whole thing turned into me perpetuating a baseless and false rumor. The reality is that I read your posted words. If your post did not accurately reflect what you meant, then retract it. But please don't accuse me of spreading innuendo about the product.
